 ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP

In this day course, we will learn how to paint the effect of wet sand at dusk – a time of day we all love. There are techniques that, once known, can help you produce more realistic wet sand and ocean.  We will cover colour, composition, and Robyn's personal technique (Alla Prima).

The aim is to learn, take home a painting you have achieved and have a great time with like-minded people.

  • This workshop is suitable for beginners (with some knowledge of oil painting), intermediate as well as advanced students.
  • This workshop is TURPS FREE.
  • Please bring your lunch
  • Teas, coffee and snacks are provided.

MATERIALS TO BRING WITH YOU

  • CANVAS BOARD  12”x16” – (31 x 41cm)  Use good quality canvas or give your board one light coat with white acrylic paint or a VERY light spray of Retouch Varnish. Cheap boards make the job of painting a lot harder as the paint does not flow on very well and you will find yourself filling in a lot of little holes).

  • BRUSHES – A good selection of reasonable quality long, FLAT SQUARE bristle brushes –   small, medium, and large.  (Art Basics are good).  PLEASE DO NOT BRING WORN-OUT BRUSHES OR ONES GUNKED UP AT THE FERRULE (unless you have a favourite one for grass/foliage)

  • COLOURS  - Artist quality where possible. I don’t mind which brand you use.

  • REDS               Pilbara Red - Cad Red or something similar
  • GREENS         Viridian
  • BLUES            Cobalt Blue - Blue Black (W/N) or Paynes Grey
  • YELLOWS      Cadmium Yellow
  • BROWNS        Burnt Sienna
  • WHITE            Titanium White (or other white if you only have that.)

            OTHER ITEMS

  • Standing or table Easel.
  • Cheap Baby Oil for WASHING BRUSHES ONLY– in a sealed jar.
  • PLEASE DO NOT BRING MINERAL TURPS OR ANY TURPS PRODUCT.
  • GAMSOL or GAMBLIN SOLVENT FREE Gel for MEDIUM. Gamsol is the safest solvent to use and it is all I use now. You will only need a tiny amount. Gamblin Solvent Free Gel is also convenient and easy to use with no nasties.

A good-sized palette. You will need plenty of room for mixing colours.

·         Double Dipper or Single Dipper

·         Palette knife for mixing colours. (Diamond shaped one with flex– medium sized)

·         Your normal painting kit including plenty of SOFT rags and paper towel – baby wipes.

·         Kneadable Putty rubber – thin willow charcoal if you would like to try my method of drawing in.

·         Blu Tack for holding your board firmly.

Robyn will provide a colour reproduction of the subject but if you prefer to work from an i iPad please contact at robyncollierart@gmail.com   to receive the image (below).
